The Alabama Referee Program will be offering a Development and Assessment program for top referees in the region during the Open Cup.
This will be a great benefit for traveling referees in the South Region. "It's exciting to partner with the referee association on this endeavor as it will have the added benefit of providing the highest level referees available! Normally, this events are only in conjunction with regional and national championships so to have this during the Open Cup will give the tournament a very high standard of refereeing!" discusses Scott Spencer, tournament director of Premer Soccer Services.
The Alabama Referee Developmental Academy is offered in conjunction with the Alabama Open Cup, Decatur, AL. This Academy is for select, high-potential Referees. The mission of this Academy is to provide advanced training and skills development in a top-level environment provided by the high level competition of this tournament. It is used to prepare these high potential Referees for future advanced assignments at select events.
The Referee Development Academy is staffed with a minimum of a Lead Instructor (some previous instructors included FIFA Referees and Assistants, National Instructors and Assessors and currently identified PRO officials). Senior-level Referee Mentors are also brought in to watch selected matches and then spend time with the Referee team in follow-up meetings. These sessions focus on providing connection to FIFA Considerations and other advanced topics. This event is offered to those expressing a true desire to move into the higher levels of officiating while being used to accelerate Referee performance and develop future advancement opportunities.
Interested referees wanting to apply for the academy should contact Kris Bailey, State Director of Instruction, at SDI@alasoccerref.com
